Entering DLR site Cologne
In order to enter DLR site, please come to the North entrance (Building 55 on the map). The North entrance is the main entrance. It is important that you note that the North entrance of DLR is located in the street "Planitzweg". This might be very confusing, because it deviates from the official address "Linder Höhe". So, if you do not want to find yourself in the middle of nowhere, please note that you must come to "Planitzweg". It is easy, if you simply follow the road signs to DLR, but difficult, if you have a navigation system. In the latter case, enter "Planitzweg".
Once arrived at the North entrance, you are kindly asked to register. The officers should have your name on the list of visitors already. However, you still need to show your valid passport to them. So please, have it ready. When you receive your batch, please wear the batch visibly.
Travelling to the DLR site Cologne
The DLR Cologne site is located south-east of Cologne, close to Cologne-Bonn airport.
Arrival by train and bus
The local trains ("S-Bahn") S12 or S19 leave from cologne central station (Köln Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)), Siegburg and Troisdorf. The local train S19 also leaves from Cologne-Bonn Airport. Daytime departures take place every 20 min for both trains at cologne central station so that there is a train every 10 minutes. Get off at the railway station "Porz-Wahn" and continue from there by KVB bus number 162, direction "DLR". Please be sure that you take the one saying "DLR" as there are different routes for bus number 162. Exit at the last stop and you have arrived at the main gate of the German Aerospace Center DLR Köln.
Note: Make sure that you have a valid ticket. Tickets for local train routes must be purchased in advance. If you need a ticket, you can get one from the ticket machines.
Arrival by taxi
Upon arrival at cologne central station (Köln Hauptbahnhof) take a taxi to "Porz-Wahnheide, DLR". Taxi stands are located on both, the north and south exit of the station. Taxis are available almost everywhere in Cologne. However, if you can't find one, you can call Tel. +49 19410 and ask to be picked up. Tell the driver to take you to "Porz-Wahnheide, DLR".
Arrival by car
Have a look at the map displayed above.
Arriving from Frankfurt (A3) or from Bonn (A59): follow the indications to Köln Bonn Airport (A59) until the exit Porz-Wahn/Wahnheide. At the exit take the right (Porz-Wahnheide) and follow the DLR signs.
Arriving from Cologne (A59) or Oberhausen/Düsseldorf (A3): follow the indications to Köln/Bonn Airport (A59), then do not exit at the interchange "Flughafen Köln/Bonn" but take the next exit Porz-Wahn/Wahnheide. At the exit drive left (Porz-Wahnheide) and follow the DLR signs.
Important Note: If you use a navigation system, enter your destination as "Planitzweg" instead of Linder Höhe. This will take you to the North entrance where you are requested to register. You need your passport for this purpose.
Arrival by plane
Upon arrival at Köln Bonn Airport there's two possibilities: Take a taxi in front of the terminal and ask the driver to take you to "DLR in Porz-Wahnheide". Or take the local train S19 direction "Hennef" from the railway station "Köln/Bonn Flughafen", which is located in the basement of the airport, to the station "Porz-Wahn" which is your first stop after boarding the train. Continue from there by KVB bus number 162, direction "DLR".
From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) the DLR can be reached in around 1.5 hours by public transport and in around 1 hour by car.
Train connections from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to Cologne City or Siegburg are provided at 20 - 45 minutes intervals. Shortest transfer duration is about one hour.
