Confirmation of participation is required to participate in the 8th International Summer School on Aerogels. The workshop will be held in Cologne, Germany, on September 23^rd to 27^th, 2024.

BESL Eventagentur GmbH & Co. KG is our external partner for the participant registration and is also responsible for the invoicing and collection of participation fees. Please check the full information, fees and deadlines on this website.

We kindly ask you to provide the requested information in the required fields during the registration process. Upon the completion of the registration process, an electronic confirmation of the registration will be generated by the system and automatically sent to the e-mail address provided by the user. By registering for the 8th International Summer School on Aerogels you agree to the participation terms and conditions. If you are registering on behalf of another individual, it is your responsibility to ensure the person participating is aware of these terms and accepts them. By completing the registration on behalf of other individuals you are warranting that you have made the participants aware of these terms and that they have accepted these terms.

Registration Fees

All participants and delegates must register for the 8th International Summer School on Aerogels in full as per the categories and rates outlined below. Participants and can register for the Summer School only via the registration facility on this website.

Please note:
For all scientific conferences with a social programme, the German Aerospace Center is obliged to split the conference fees into a VAT-exempt and a VAT-liable part in the conference fee invoice, as both VAT-exempt and VAT-liable services are provided in return for the conference fees.
Therefore, the breakdown of the amount is for tax purposes only. Each participant of the Summer School can only book the complete programme of the Summer School Workshop including the social programme.
As organizer and host of 8th International Summer School on Aerogels, we are required by the German tax regulations to include this information on the Summer School invoices. Each participant of this event will only pay the total amount shown on the invoice.

The 8th International Summer School on Aerogels participation fees are listed below.

Participants from research institutions: 500 €
Participants from industry: 1500 €

Participation fee for all participants for the onsite event includes:

Please note that in all cases hotel accommodations are NOT included in the registration fee!

Upon completion of the registration process, an electronic confirmation of the registration will be generated by the system and automatically sent to the e-mail address provided by the user. Cancellation & Refund Policy for the MBSE Participants

Cancellation requests should be submitted in writing by e-mail to aerogels@dlr.de.

All bank service charges, exchange rate differences and administration fees will be deducted from your registration refund.

General Information

Hardware and Software

For the modelling session at Summer school for Aerogels 2024, the participants would require the following:

Hardware requirements: Laptop
- For people who bring their tablets, they can still use them (if they are windows based) but the performance might be affected.
- Our suggestion is any laptop with Windows 8 or higher operating system.
- Apple (macOS) or Linux systems will also work for those who do not use Windows operating system. (but they would need the software requirements stated below).
Software requirements: Anaconda platform + Jupyter notebook (only for non-windows users)

Language

The official language of the 8^th International Summer School on Aerogels is English.

Badges

All participants must wear the identification badges. Entrance to DLR Köln will not be permitted to any person without badge.

Mobile Phone Manners

As a courtesy to other attendees, please observe good mobile phone manners. When attending sessions, please turn off your mobile phone and other wireless communications or use the silent notifications options. If you must take a call, please step out of the room rather than disrupting the event. Thank you for your cooperation.

Passport and visa

A valid passport is required for non-EU citizens for entry into GERMANY and the European Union. An identity card is sufficient for citizens of EU Member States. Please consult your local Consulate according to your nationality for specific details.

Advance travel planning and early visa application are important, since entry to Germany with a visa is subject to more intense scrutiny than was previously the case. We highly recommend that foreign participants contact their local embassy to find out what travel documents they will need to visit Germany.

Requested letter of invitation

The Workshop Secretariat will send you a letter of invitation upon request. The Organizing Committee would like to clearly state that the letter is only to assist participants in obtaining a visa or in their efforts to raise travel funds. Unless otherwise stated, this invitation letter does not imply any financial obligations on the part of the Workshop towards participants.

All participants of the 8^th International Summer School on Aerogels 2024 requiring an invitation letter for visa application purposes should request this as an option during the online registration. Letters of invitation will not be issued before participants have registered for the workshop and payment of the required registration fees has been received.

Insurance

The registration fee does not include the participant’s insurance against accidents, sickness, cancellation, theft, property damage or loss. Participants are advised to take out adequate personal insurance.

WiFi

The Venue DLR Cologne offers free WiFi to all workshop participants. Passwords will be announced on-site.

Currency

The German currency is EURO. Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept international credit cards.
